The Strategy

Our stategy centered on controlling the center of the board. We originally planned on having two robots to do this. The first would drive across the middle, knocking the first ball on to our side and setting up a wall across the middle of the board. This would make it very difficult for the other team to cross the center and would knock falling balls onto our side of the board. The second car would go to the other teams side, following the side using a distance sensor. It would pick up one of the opponents balls and drive straight back to our side, up a ramp and right over our base. We had all this built accept the wire connections, when we realized this idea was too complicated to wire. Sending robots in two directions four feet away and keeping them connected and stacked on top of each other proved too difficult to do and maintain. We simplified near the contest date to a single robot that would drive to the center and push the first ball onto our side, back up, and do the same thing with the next two that fell. This made our code simple as well.
